Requirements for NHIS Recruitment 2023

To be qualified for the 2023/2024 National Health Insurance Scheme, you need to have the following:

Basic Qualification

An applicant is required to possess the following:

a) Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degree/, or their equivalent, recognized by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) or

b) Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharm) degree or equivalent qualification, recognized by the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN) or

c) Qualified Nurse (i.e. BNSc or its equivalent, Registered Nurse/Midwife [RN/RM] or other specialized areas of Nursing) or

d) Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (BMLS) degree or equivalent qualification, recognized by the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN)

e) Full registration with the relevant or appropriate Regulatory Council

f) Current licence to practice issued by the relevant or appropriate Regulatory Council

g) NYSC discharge or exemption certificate

h) Note that for positions above the entry point for each cadre, appropriate number of years with cognate experience is required

i) Possession of postgraduate qualification in public health, family medicine, health planning and management or equivalent is an added advantage and desired for higher positions.

j) Experience and skill in monitoring and evaluation of healthcare services and facilities are desired

Description of Duties

Under the supervision of the Coordinator of the State Office, the Officer, Senior Officer, Assistant Manager, Manager, Senior Manager, Principal Manager and Assistant General Manager in all the cadres will be expected to perform the following duties among others:

a) Lead/participate in all quality management activities in the State Office including accreditation and other quality assurance functions.

b) Implement and maintain grievance redressal mechanism and other accountability initiatives of the Scheme

c) Provide technical assistance to the relevant State Social Health Insurance/Contributory Agency/Scheme

d) Provide technical support in implementing work plans for all areas of quality management initiatives including accreditation and reaccreditation

e) Create synergies among the staff in the relevant departments of the state office.

f) Contribute any operational framework that can lead to high performance, credibility and add value to the quality management activities of the State Office within the purview of the NHIS Operational Guidelines.

g) Coordinate the activities of the State Call Center and ensure prompt issuance of authorization codes

h) Coordinate the mining of data necessary for the review of NHIS Services Charges and NHIS Drug Price List in the State

i) Carry out any other responsibility that may be assigned by the NHIS State Coordinator or their authorized representatives

A Little Note About NHIS

The National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) is a body corporate established under Act 35 of 1999 Constitution by the Federal Government of Nigeria to improve the health of all Nigerians at an affordable cost

NHIS is to provide social health insurance in Nigeria where health care services of contributors are paid from the common pool of funds contributed by the participants of the Scheme.

It is a pre-payment plan where participants pay a fixed regular amount. The amount/funds are pooled, allowing the Health Maintenance Organisations(HMOs) to pay for those needing medical attention.

It is primarily a risk sharing arrangement that can improve resource mobilization and equity. It is indeed regarded as the most widely used form of healthcare financing worldwide.
