Columbia Business School’s acceptance rate hovers these days around 16%, for the year 2021.

The school received 6,500 applications from its applicants, of the 6,500 applicants, 1,215 were given admission. But 847 students enrolled from those accepted.

Columbia’s program gives students the flexibility to commence their coursework in August or January.

Undergraduates— or those completing graduate work in another field— who plan on attending an MBA program, but would like to accrue work experience first, may apply to Columbia’s Deferred Enrollment Program. These applicants complete mostly the same application, with a slightly altered essay section.

Columbia MBA Tuition

For a single student and based on room and board for the school year only, the Columbia Business School total cost of attendance comes in at $119k.

For those starting in January, their total budget is lower since they complete the first year in 8 months.

There is room for merit-based scholarships, but for one to be considered for merit-based scholarships, it is mandatory to apply for August admission.

Additional scholarship funding through various Columbia fellowships, both specific and general, can offset costs.

For instance, the Columbia Fellows program, which provides partial and full tuition for candidates showing the most promise as future global business leaders. While  Some awards, like the Board of Overseers Fellowship, can renew for the second year.

The Financial Aid office can assist students find external funding as well; it is important for students with external scholarships to inform the financial aid office, as those scholarships may affect their eligibility for need-based funding.

Financial aid counseling at Columbia encourages all accepted candidates to explore outside scholarship and loan sources.

U.S. News places Harvard in the top #8, with individual program concentrations like Real Estate and Finance ranking among the top #5.

Bloomberg estimates Columbia’s program at  #6, while QS ranks Columbia at #8 among global business schools and at #5 among U.S. MBA schools. Similarly, Forbes ranks Columbia at #7, tied with MIT’s Sloan School of Business.

In 2021, QS refined its ranking process for business schools, focusing on five key indicators which are: employability, entrepreneurship and alumni outcomes, return on investment, thought leadership, and diversity among students and faculty. QS interviews global employers and institutions to complete their rankings.

The Economist evaluates MBA programs and placed them both generally and within specific performance areas.

Columbia earns top ten rankings in areas related to graduate salary and job offers; the MBA program overall ranks at #11 overall.
