Is Emory Ivy League? Ranking and Acceptance Rate

We will be looking at important things future students of Emory University need to know about the school. We will be focusing on; is Emory University Ivy League, ranking, acceptance rate, and more in this article.

Founded as “Emory College” in 1836, Emory University is a private research institution located in Atlanta, Georgia.

As the second-oldest private institution of higher education in Georgie, Emory University has a total enrollment of 15,846 students (fall 2021), with 8,197 undergraduates and 7,649 graduate and professional students.

21% of Emory University students are Georgia residents, the remaining percent come from 49 other states, D.C., and many other parts of the 100 countries. 40% of students are male, and 60% are female.

Emory University is divided into nine schools and colleges, four of which serve undergraduate and graduate students. See Emory Transfer Acceptance Rate.

The nine academic divisions in Emory University include Emory College of Arts and Sciences, Oxford College, Goizueta Business School, Laney Graduate School, School of Law, School of Medicine, Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing, Rollins School of Public Health, and the Candler School of Theology.

The Emory Eagles have nearly 20 NCAA Division III varsity teams and are well-known for their successful swimming and diving team.

Is Emory University an Ivy League School?

Although Emory University is considered a highly renowned university with outstanding opportunities for students, it is not an Ivy League school.

The Ivy League is a collection of private colleges in the Northeast. Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Princeton, UPenn, and Yale are the eight prestigious Ivies.

Although the group initially formed as part of the Ivy League NCAA Division I athletic conference, presently they are considered the gold standard of the colleges in the United States and worldwide.

The designation as Ivy League has come to represent extraordinarily prestigious and highly selective colleges. See Emory Medical School Acceptance Rate.

For the Class of 2025, each Ivy League school admitted between 3% and 9% of applicants. Due to the schools’ strong academic reputations, graduate outcomes, and quality of life, the admissions process is highly competitive.

In addition, the large endowments each Ivy receives ensure that they are able to provide generous financial aid and resources for students.

Although the Ivies are considered global powerhouses in research and academics, other highly renowned universities are not parts of the Ivy League, such as MIT and Stanford.

Although Emory University is a member of the University Athletic Association, it is not an official Ivy League school.

The Emory Eagles compete in NCAA Division III athletics, but they do not have an intercollegiate football team.

Emory University is known for its academic rigor and top-tier education across a wide range of academic fields. In addition, Emory University has graduated with some distinguished personalities since it started.

Some of its alumni include two Prime Ministers, nine university presidents, 11 members of the United States Congress, and a Vice President of the United States.

Emory University Ranking

Given these impressive numbers, it is no surprise that Emory University ranks among the best schools in the country.

The popular publication site known as the U.S. News & World Report placed Emory University at #21 in the nation in National Universities, alongside Ivy League schools Dartmouth, Brown, and Cornell.

U.S News also ranks Emory University tied for #25 place in Undergraduate Teaching and placed at 23rd in Best Value Schools. See What Emory is known for.

Emory University’s #63 place ranking from Washington Monthly on its 2020 National University Rankings might seem unimpressive, but one has to look at the context.

Unlike other publications, Washington Monthly ranks universities according to “their contribution to the public good in three broad categories: social mobility, research, and promoting public service.”

On that scale, Emory University falls within the top 50 in research and service, revealing it to be a school dedicated to improving its community and the world.

Niche gives Emory University an A+ grade, citing its commitment to strong academics, a diverse student body, and athletic success.

This score puts Emory near the top on several Niche lists, including Best Colleges Nursing in America, Best Colleges for Chemistry in America, and Best Christian Colleges in America.

Emory University Acceptance Rate

Emory University has a competitive acceptance rate of 15%.

However, this low number also allows for small classes, with a student-to-faculty ratio of 9:1. These numbers demonstrate that Emory University can give great attention to every student enrolled at the school.
